JACK ATTACK
James Wilson (Participation & Programs Manager, South Australia) explains Bowls SA's involvement in selecting Anthony for his award and for Christies for the program. "We felt Anthony was a great ambassador for the program and had done a great job. The club had such great success when running the program, turned it all around – from no night bowls to a thriving competition that was well received in the community. We simply chose Christies Beach due to the success of their program and as reward for such exceptional effort". |

Looking for a way to encourage new members for the club, Anthony Exton (in photo to the left - holding microphone) organised a second season of Jack Attack. Anthony explains how Jack Attack works: "Jack Attack is a new initiative from Bowls Australia which is encouraging younger players to connect with Lawn Bowls in a relaxed friendly way. It consists of two 5 end sets, with a 1 end tiebreaker if required. Each team consists of 3 players, who bowl 2 bowls each. Although you can have up to 6 players in your team, which allows others to go to the bar, or bowl one bowl each. We have a wide range of ages and abilities playing in our Jack Attack competition. We also have family groups that span three generations, and love the fact they can play sport with their kids and grandkids. Jack Attack is fast, fun and has become a hit at Christies Beach Bowling Club." Anthony has been awarded Bowls SA's Volunteer of the Year for his work at the club, which also included organising a "Come & Try" day for people with disability which led to the creation of a disability program at Bowls SA, which could lead to even bigger things! A well deserved reward for all his hard work. |
